A true gem!
Jacks Peak Retreat is a perfect place for a group or a family vacation. House and property were perfect, the two hot tubs were a great bonus feature, and Susan is an impeccable host. We look forward to staying here again next time we're in the area.”
Fantastic stay
This family home is amazing. It’s sunny, comfortable, and has everything you’ll need to make it an unforgettable stay. The property is very spacious, each bedroom has its on full bathroom, and it’s immaculately clean. We sat in front of the fire after putting the kids to bed and read -it was heaven. The patio and deck are a dream, and we only wish we could have stayed longer. I already miss sitting in the sunny kitchen nook drinking my morning coffee. My husband’s favorite spot to sit and sit in quiet was the sunny front porch. The location is also 5 stars. It felt remote, and it was completely peaceful, but you can get to the highway within minutes, downtown Carmel 11mins, etc, the grocery store 4mins... Couldn’t ask for a better place to get away from the city and let the kids play freely in the woods outside of the house. My kids did not want to leave and insisted that this was now their forever home. We hope to come back. This place would be ideal to share with another family once Covid is over. For us, it was a much needed chance to rest and give the kids more space.”
Great Get-away
Jacks Peak Retreat is the perfect spot to get away from it all. There is so much space around the house, room to roam, and space to be on your own. Just perfect for the times we live in right now. The hot tubs were perfect too!”
Relaxing getaway
A group of friends needed to escape the city and we decided to stay in this property. The location is fabulous, very close to Carmel and Monterey as is the setting in midst of beautiful oak and pine trees.
The 5 bedrooms with adjacent bathrooms are perfect for a group of friends and privacy within the house if needed.
We used the large deck for meals or just hanging out and to enjoy the views of the forest and observing the wild life like deer and lots of birds visiting the bird baths.
Wonderful outdoor entertaining space under these old trees is provided as well including a large large jacuzzi made out of stone which is perfect after a long hike.
The house has a lot of old world charme and character and we loved playing the old records provided by the host as well as exploring the array of books in different locations of the house.
The welcome amenity was a very nice touch and everything is very nicely marked and explained.
It was very easy to communicate with the owner.
We are definitely looking forward to coming back as everyone in the group had a relaxing and fun weekend
Thank you”
It was very nice that we could bring our family and the boat
It was great. We saw several deer.”
Relaxing property
We very much enjoyed our relaxing stay. The property is quiet and surrounded by nature, but also just a short drive to Carmel and Monterey. The back deck is particularly peaceful with its comfy chairs and bird baths. The house is spacious and had everything we needed. The hot tubs are well maintained and the perfect temp. I recently had foot surgery and appreciated that the house was accessible for my knee scooter. We had a lovely time and will be back.”
Family getaway
Absolutely wonderful time spent at this beautiful property.”
Great property for group or family gatherings.
Great house with multiple large gathering space not inside and outside. Easily sat dinner for 10! Lots to do onsite but only minutes away from grocery stores, beaches, golf, great shopping, biking and kayaking. Highly recommended for groups and family gatherings.”
A wonderful getaway
A wonderful place for children to enjoy the outdoors knowing they were safe. A beautiful and welcoming home. Not lacking in amenities. David was very helpful.
Thank you for sharing your house.”
Perfect!
Jacks Peak Retreat is an awesome place to stay in the Pebble Beach area. Close to everything, clean, and comfortable. The property managers are excellent at communicating and very inviting!”
Great Experience
Second time staying at this property and as great as ever. Thanks David and Susan!”
Perfect!
Ideal for access to golf, shopping, and transportation, but in a very natural setting. Property manager is an excellent communicator and very prompt. We will definitely stay at Jacks Peak Retreat again!”
Exceeded expectations in every way!
An absolutely amazing property with wonderful, helpful hosts that also fully respect your privacy. We had a group of 14 and found it to be surprisingly well-stocked, from towels to kitchen gear to toiletries to firewood. The appliances all worked wonderfully and the hot tubs were impeccably clean. The house is big enough that every family could retreat to a private room/bathroom but small enough to feel intimate during social times.
The hosts were in the guest house (which was visible just down the road) and were very responsive to any questions we had. And yet we never needed to meet them in-person. I texted several questions throughout our stay and always got a timely response. They even restocked our firewood while we were out and about.
Everybody in our group loved the location and I would absolutely book it again if we found ourselves returning to the Monterey area.”
Great for a family celebration
We just got back from our weekend at Jacks Peak Retreat and we had a great time. Our family ranged from ages 1 to 86 and there was something for everyone and plenty of space. The layout is great for a family with lots of private spaces and fun games. The house is well equipped and the hosts are personable and helpful. We loved the time we spent here and can tell that this home is a very special place for the host's family as there are lots of personal touches that reflect their attention to detail and love for this home. The setting was very peaceful and the inground hot tub was great.”
Cozy and Beautiful!
The house was so cozy and tucked away in privacy. Beautiful scenery around the house and the perfect stay.”
Dreamy and Spacious
We celebrated a milestone birthday for the matriarch of our family. Jacks Peak Retreat was the perfect setting for this celebration. It was spacious enough for two families and a couple. The home itself was elegant and charming. We loved using the hot tubs in the evening underneath the trees. It was magical, thank you!”
This is your spot
So I had five couples with a wedding in Carmel. The house and grounds were perfection. Susan and David were so kind, and available. Everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom, the kitchen was great, the hot tub was very nice, the views were wonderful. Had a morning deer, a red tail hawk, just a beautiful and relaxing place to stay, a short Uber to Carmel, and a short walk to Whole Foods in Monterey. I only have one child or I would be back for a wedding!”
Terrific!
Very quiet and private yet only a few minutes to Carmel’s downtown and to Monterey. Large, well furnished house with everything in great order. Very comfortable beds. Huge master bedroom and living room. It was ideal for my group of four. A wonderful house!”
Great house. Great location.
We rented this house for a week to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. This house is in a great location. It is quiet and secluded and while there we saw deer and lots of different birds that flew down to drink water from several pottery containers on the back deck. Despite the seclusion it is just five minutes from the Del Monte shopping center with great restaurants like California Pizza Kitchen, P.F. Chang's, and Lalla Oceanside Grill. There is a Macy's plus many specialty stores. There is also a Whole Foods for groceries and a Rite Aid. Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row are only a few minutes farther.
Our children and grandchildren came for the Labor Day weekend. The bedrooms are large and one family set up two twin size air mattresses for their children on the floor next to the queen bed. The twin air mattresses as well as two queen size air mattresses are part of the amenities the owners provide.
When our children and grandchildren left two couples we often travel with came to spend the remainder of the week. They loved the house. While it is old it is neat and clean. Each bedroom has it's own bathroom which is convenient and affords privacy. The living room is large with plenty of comfortable seating. There is a dining room with a large table and the kitchen has table as well. There are lots of windows to look out at the forest that surrounds the house. The large back deck is a great place to sit, enjoy a favorite beverage, and take in the amazing surroundings. The master bedroom was very big and at the other end of the house from the kitchen and other bedrooms. When we closed the door it was very quiet.
To sum it all up this is a great house for a large family gathering. Everyone commented on how comfortable the beds were. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would definitely stay there again.”
Monterey Car Week
Great location to track. Very quiet. Lovely owners to deal with.
Awesome library! Wifi could be faster :)”
Very comfortable home and peaceful surroundings.
Smooth property owner very easy to work with.”
Privacy and old-fashioned charm
Check-in could not have been any easier. Bedrooms are roomy with lots of extra blankets and towels. Well-stocked kitchen. We enjoyed browsing through the extensive old book collection and playing some on the very cool piano. Extremely comfortable and private location. Lots of room for our 3 generations to spread out.”
Fantastic property for family get-away!
David and Susan's home in the mountain above Carmel cannot be a more perfect setting for a large family get-away. The property is large and easily accommodated our party of 12. The living areas are are spacious and so welcoming we felt like we were at home. The home is old, but so well cared for you hardly notice except for the amazing collection of books and a piano that is beyond amazing. Five bedrooms with 5 bathrooms and so much floor space that you can sleep everyone comfortably. David and Susan provide lots of blankets and towels and sleeping cushions. You will have everything you need. The kitchen is so well stocked with every pan and utensil you can imagine. It's so bright and cheery in there I didn't want to leave! Lastly, as a gardener myself, I could not get over the beautiful gardens that surround this property. Everything is so well cared for here. I just want to take this opportunity to thank David and Susan for sharing their home with us for a week. It's truly a gem.”
Fabulous retreat!
The nicest home we’ve ever rented! The location was superb- up in the hills over Carmel & Pacific Grove & Monterey. Everything you could have needed was stocked in the house. The owners were wonderful to deal with. Will definitely come back.”
We loved it!
We (9 adults) stayed for 4 nights and it was great. We used the Jacuzzis every night! It was fabulous and the owners were extremely nice and easy to work with.”
Great time great place
Recently spent the weekend here with friends and family great locations plenty of room.”
Cozy and Comfortable
It was a wet and stormy weekend but being inside this beautiful house was just what we needed, together time! Great vinyl collection and books. The kids had a great time too playing hide-and-seek!”
Awesome
Great, no hassle place to stay. Couldn’t have been better!”
Beautiful, peaceful, serene!
We really enjoyed our stay, the house has all of the necessary accommodations and the forest patio is a perfect setting.”
Quiet, private and relaxing. Wonderful owners
We stayed for 3 nights in early October. The home is older but well-cared for and very clean. Everything was in good working order (except the internet, no fault of the owners -- a Comcast issue). The home is very well stocked with kitchen tools and supplies, towels, and plenty of extra blankets. We especially enjoyed the private location and quiet, peaceful surroundings.
Instructions were clear and sensible. Communication with the owners was easy and pleasant. They were extremely responsive. We would stay again.”
A great place for families
Our entire family including our 3 children, their spouses and our 6 grandsons had a great time at Jacks Peak Retreat. My husband is in a wheelchair and the entire main level and the front yard and upper decks were completely accessible. The house was large enough for everyone to have plenty of space and the gathering spaces were great for lots of together time.”
A perfect place for us!
There are some places that make you feel at home the moment you walk in the door. Jacks Peak Retreat is one of them. Spacious, unfutzy, soothing, warm, are all words that come to mind. With family ranging from 14 to 70(me!) there was something to do or someplace to not do. Our hosts, the Hughes Family, are as laid back and unpretentious as we are. It was a no- hassle rental coming and going.
The location was perfect. Secluded yet 5 minutes from Carmel and 5 minutes from Monterey. Everything you needed was down the hill at a very nice shopping area but at the house the sounds of nature were the only sounds around. The sky at night was especially beautiful as we sat in the free-form stone hot tub. Young and old used it a lot as the nights were cool. Coffee on the sunny deck in the morning or the cozy breakfast nook was very popular. A glass of wine in the gardens was as nice in the afternoon. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for a place that feels like home.”
Fantastic - even better than described!
Three generations of our family were in the Pebble Beach/Carmel area for my nephew's wedding - Jacks Peak Retreat was the perfect home base for our 5 day stay. The house is secluded and provides a beautiful setting yet is just a few minutes from all the places you want and need to go. The house itself is a treasure - well-equipped and very comfortable and cozy! You truly feel like you are in a beloved family home. The 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms make it so pleasant for large groups. The grounds are beautiful (amazing plants, orchard, and areas for basketball, croquet, bocce, and more). We rent many vacation rentals, and Jack's Peak Retreat is at the top of the list for great experiences for our family!”
We so enjoyed our stay at this tranquil home.
The property was restorative and so beautiful. We rented this lovely home to celebrate our Mother's 95th Birthday. We stayed for a week and did not want to leave. The house was beautiful and David was kind and wonderful. I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to stay in Monterrey area and want to relax. The house was very clean. We needed 5 bedrooms and 5 baths, it was perfect for the 8 of us. Thank you so much.”
Perfect home away from home
We had the most wonderful stay at this Jacks Peak Retreat property this last weekend. We had multiple families (all with small children) coming into town for the marathon, and this house ended up being the perfect accommodations for us. Centrally located, private, a great dose of nature and the outdoors, while also providing all the amenities you may need. David is super responsive and provides just the right amount of guidance that you may need - while also being gracious hosts - they even had snacks waiting for us upon arrival. We would definitely consider renting here again and recommend to anyone traveling with kids.”
Come for the house, stay for the owners!
I can't think of where to begin with this property. The history, the heritage, the family...you name it, everything is a 10! David and Patti were amazing hosts and this house was great for our large group. I have never been a big fan of this style of rental vs. a hotel, but with a group of 8, the pricing was right and after our trip my mind has been changed. I felt like I was at home and when you are on the road for 3 weeks of the month, it is nice to get that break from your traditional hotel living.
Thank you very much, David and Patti for sharing not only your wonderful home, but your family and history with us.
If you are debating about this rental, don't think twice and book it!”
Very private and scenic. Great for families and nature lovers.
Our extended family was in the Carmel/Monterey area for a wedding, and this was the perfect location to reach both towns. In fact, you’re just a short drive from both but it feels like worlds away because the house is tucked in such a private setting. The house was spread out and accommodated our several generations nicely. We all enjoyed the spacious deck, lovely gardens and large (and hot!) outdoor jacuzzi. While the house wasn’t super modern, it was cozy and nicely furnished. We would definitely stay there again.”
This is my favorite of many past house rentals
The house and grounds were charming, well tended, private, comfortable, and magical. We enjoyed the sunny lawn area playing bocce ball, the magnificent oak trees, flowering plants, and acres of coastal woodlands. Inside, comfortable furniture, and a fireplace we were encouraged to use, was perfect for lounging, reading, and visiting. We cooked in an extremely well supplied kitchen and ate in the spacious dining room. With 5 bedrooms, each with its own bath, we could retire to our own little worlds.Being close to the greater Monterey/Carmel area, field trips were easily accessible. A lovely park at the top of Jacks Peak had walking trails and gorgeous views of the bay and ocean. I highly recommend this property.”
Hidden gem in convenient location
We had a group of 9 people and the house fit all of us perfectly. Everyone had their own space and bathroom. The kitchen and dining area are a good size and lead right out to the deck that overlooks a beautiful property. Everything inside was easy to find and fully stocked.
There is a lot to enjoy on the property itself. The owners are great, easy to communicate with and very responsive. The location can't be beat. You are hidden away in the woods yet close to all points of interest. Jacks Peak Retreat is definitely a wonderful place to stay.”
Charming
The home is charming and perfect for multiple couples. The location is perfect for accessing Monterey, Carmel, Carmel Valley and Pacific Grove.”
Wonderful hosts, perfect wedding retreat and family vacation!
I booked this house for my families who came in town to attend our wedding in Carmel Valley. We had 10 adults and 2 young kids, spent a week on the property. We all loved the stay, wished it could be longer and would definitely love to come back and visit again!
First of all, David and Patti were super friendly and thoughtful. They went out of their ways to make the stay easy, comfortable and memorable for us. I had my wedding flowers delivered to the house the day we arrived, after I got the permission from them. David and Patti took care of the flowers once they were delivered, before I arrived! They also generously offered thefresh and beautiful Cally lilies in their yard to me, which I used for my bridal bouquet which was really special. As very thoughtful hosts, they made sure we had enough fundamental supplies and told us we can just leave the bed as it is when we checked out, since that's easier for the guests.
The house itself is just peaceful, beautiful, spacious, enough private space for everyone yet with great living and dinning rooms to hang out together. All my guests commented that the beds are comfortable. The private bath room for each bedroom is just so convenient, especially on my wedding day when everyone was trying to get ready at the same time. The kitchen has state of art appliances, well-stocked supplies from olive oil, salt, pepper, sugar, mashmallows to trash bags and ziplock bags. We had fun cooking meals together. The kids were so excited about the property too, as they got to explore the gardens, learn about all the different flowers and plants in the front and back yard. They even picked their first lemon from the lemon tree in the backyard! We also really enjoyed the hot tub and the fire places on the cold and rainy days.
The location of the house is quite convenient, too. It's close to highway 1, and there is a shopping mall nearby with gas station, cleaners, Whole Foods Market and other stores, so it was easy to run errands.
Overall it's just a wonderful place to stay! Highly recommend and would love to visit again with my family and friends”
Magical Feeling—Love Jacks Peak
This was our 4th time visiting Jacks Peak Retreat, and once again it was perfect. Upon arrival, we just stood next to our car enjoying the magical feeling that the place exudes, and we did the same exact thing when departing. In between, the house continues to charm with all the wonderful nuances of a place that is set up to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome. All 5 couples have plenty of private space if they want it, but the gathering rooms are also well set up for meals and sharing experiences (like watching the Warriors game).
This trip I discovered that hiking the streets around the property is a great way to get some exercise; there are very few cars and hiking through the trees and checking out the neighboring properties is relaxing.
Let me summarize: The place is great. All 5 couples love the place and we have reserved it again for next year.”
Fantastic family weekend
This was our second time staying at this beautiful property. We have rented many vacation rental accommodations for our adult-children family reunions, and this is without a doubt the best set-up for our preferred 5 bed/5 bath. Lots of privacy for bedrooms but many wonderful, comfortable gathering spaces for coming together. Beautiful large deck to soak in the view. Peaceful and secluded. Very close and centrally located on the Monterey Peninsula, easy to get everywhere. Easy access to shopping, activities, and restaurants (though we ate at home—great kitchen and dining space!) Very responsive and friendly owners. The Monterey Peninsula is a great place for a family gathering and Jacks Peak Retreat is a fantastic place to stay.”
Our best vacation rental experience
We rented this property at Jacks Peak to celebrate our anniversary with our family. We had eleven adults and one toddler for most of a week. The location offered easy access to a range of activities in Monterey Bay. The property is in a secluded area with good shopping and restaurants close by.
We have rented several vacation rental accommodations, large and small, over the past few years. This was by far the most welcoming home we have had the pleasure to stay in. There was ample space for large group activities as well as plenty of serene niches for more private moments. Having five bedrooms with private baths and the more than ample common areas created a very easy living environment for eleven people. The kitchen is very well equipped. It is very easy to get lost in the very large collection of both old and new books extending from floor to ceiling in the main room. The house is full of photos and memorabilia of the owner's family through their many years in the home. We got a sense it was a home that was well lived in. The setting seemed to create an open invitation for us to create some of our own memories, which we thoroughly enjoyed doing.
Although we have stayed in a lot of vacation rental properties, this is the first property we felt strong enough about the home and the owners to write a review. Our experience was very good, and memorable.”Owner's Response: Stories like yours—of families coming together and creating memories here—reinforce for us what a joy it has been to share this home with others. It is our pleasure to welcome guests here, so that they can relax and create their own special memories; just as your family has done and as ours has for over 60 years, spanning five generations.
Wonderful week at Jacks Peak!
10 of my family gathered from across the country and had a wonderful week. We do this regularly and have stayed in a number of nice homes but Jacks Peak Retreat is one of the most comfortable and most welcoming we've tried.
The family has been very generous making things visitors might need or enjoy available. There is everything from supplies and linens to games, music, books, gardens, hot tubs, even a piano in the living room and desks and easy chairs in most of the bedrooms. We were as comfortable as if we were at home.
The five bedrooms and five bathrooms were large, comfortable, and well-furnished. We used all five and everyone remarked on the comfort, privacy, and convenience. The kitchen and dining room were just as nice, well-stocked with everything needed and large enough that the 10 of us could gather at one table. The deck was the same: large, comfortable, well-furnished (including a very nice gas grill and gas heaters), and in the sun all day.
Access to Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, and Moss Landing was very easy. The property is outside town in a hilly, wooded, and quiet area, but it is only a 2 minute drive to Highway 1 and the Del Monte Center and 10 minutes to Carmel and the Monterey Aquarium.
I hope we have the chance to return someday and I wholeheartedly recommend this property to anyone who wants a comfortable, relaxing getaway.”
Perfect for a Family gathering!
What a fantastic place to spend a week with family that came from all over the country! David and Patti were outstanding hosts and everyone in our party absolutely loved the property! It truly felt like a home away from home for the week!
The house was well stocked (soap, paper towels, etc.) and the kitchen had all the basics to support making meals for our entire group. The back deck was a perfect place to enjoy the beautiful spring weather and the large hot tub made for some relaxing evenings. There was plenty of space for our group of 11 adults and a baby to eat together in the dining room and spend time together in the living room.
We took advantage of the Monterey Bay Aquarium passes at the house and spent an afternoon visiting the aquarium and Cannery Row in Monterey. We enjoyed walks around the neighborhood as a family, and the easy access to the highway for a drive down 17-mile Drive and the coast.
I would not hesitate for a second to come back to Jacks Peak Retreat…it was an incredible place to spend time with family! Thanks so much David, Patti, and the rest of your family for being such great hosts!”
A Treasure!
Jacks Peak Retreat is a treasure of a vacation home created by David and Patti! I cannot say enough about the wonderful, warm and welcoming atmosphere that we felt upon arrival and felt the entire time there. We had a family wedding in Carmel and rented the home as a gathering place for 8 of my family members to enjoy. We hosted a small rehearsal dinner and what a huge success as it provided the opportunity and space for both families to mingle, enjoy and get to know each other. The grounds are just stunning, the kitchen has everything you could possibly need, the beds are ever so cozy, the decks are spacious and provide a picturesque view of the surrounding trees (especially at night), the hot tub again is surrounded by those trees…everything about it was a WOW! We loved every minute and only wish we could have stayed longer!”
Very memorable
It is an excellent place for a family retreat. We came from Indonesia, a family of 3 different generations, the house is very homey, and cozy for all of us where we can gather in the living rooms with the fireplace. We stayed for 4 nights and it was very memorable for all of us. The house is well maintained, far from traffic so very quiet. Kitchen is big and a good place for breakfast and coffee in the morning. It is highly recommended and we will definitely come back. The owner was also very helpful.”
Family get-together
WHAT A GREAT PLACE for our family of 8 adults! Peaceful, beautiful, close to town and highway but surrounded by nature. It is hard to find 5 bed/5 bath homes and this was perfect (the best of the 7 places we have gone for reunions). So much to do in the area but hard to leave such a beautiful place. Great for visiting each other in the common areas, but privacy in our rooms. Sunny decks, very spacious, good visiting spaces, wonderful hot tubs, lovely views from every room/space, well-stocked kitchen (including a wonderful gift basket!), gracious and responsive owner. Walks, hikes, bike paths, shopping, beaches, art galleries, a shopping center with Whole Foods, restaurants—all nearby, and a beautiful walk up the quiet road in the forest from the house! Very welcoming and comfortable living room with fireplace, comfortable dining room, and the kitchen is a great gathering place. Plus a piano! The Monterey Peninsula is beautiful and has so many good tourist activities, so it is a great place to be for a reunion, and this is a perfect place for visiting and being together. It exceeded our expectations and I highly recommend it.”
College roommate reunion
Place was great. Plenty of room. Everything was ready for us when we arrived. Unfortunately, there was an area wide electrical outage, but David provided us with a backup generator. David was very helpful before our trip and while we were there. Place to get away from all the craziness, but still only 10-15 minutes from the ocean.”
Perfect stay for a buddies golf trip
We were fortunate to stay at this house for an annual golf trip. We had eight adults in our group requiring separate beds, and the owners were very accommodating in making arrangements for a very comfortable stay. The house is centrally located to Monterey and Carmel, with most of our destinations downtown taking no more than 15 minutes. The house is very comfortable, welcoming with great amenities. We especially enjoyed the hot tub, back deck with the expansive and serene surroundings, and dining room. The living room with the TV also worked out well where our entire group could comfortably watch the MLB playoff games. The communications with the owners was excellent, and you really felt like they went the extra mile to ensure we had a great stay. Overall, the home and stay exceeded our expectations and I would highly recommend especially for large groups.”
Spacious, Comfortable Hide-a-way Retreat
The pictures of this home are wonderful but still do not do this exquisite home justice. All ten of us were even more impressed with the home and location than we were after reviewing the details and pictures on the web site. Tucked into the woods and less than 15 minutes from Monterey or Carmel made for an ideal location, and we were all very comfortable in the many spacious rooms this home provides. Our only regret was that our itinerary did not allow more time to enjoy the home and its many amenities. Having said all this, I was even more impressed by the owners—David and Patti met us and spent the time to answer all our questions and provide us with all the information we needed for our stay. Prior to and during our stay, they were very responsive to all our inquiries and were so welcoming that it seems you were staying with friends versus renting a home through a third party. It was everything we expected and much more.”
Ranch house dream
We stayed at this house before our wedding in Carmel Valley and it was absolutely perfect. David was a very gracious host and very accommodating of our schedule. The house is extremely well laid out so that all of the rooms have a private feel but the common areas are very welcoming. The house is only 10 minutes from downtown Monterey but it is so peaceful and secluded you could never tell. Both hot tubs were fantastic and super clean. There were even plenty of toys for the kiddos and an awesome record collection and library for the adults. We would definitely come back to this house again.”
Comfortable, well-equipped, classy, "real" home
This property served us perfectly as the family gathered for a wedding. Roomy, wonderfully furnished and equipped, this home has a soul to match its distinctive setting. Perfectly organized and carefully managed Jacks Peak Retreat will satisfy multi/generational families and well-behaved mature groups. Close to everything yet very private. Thoughtful, available owners made everything easy—except leaving! We wanted to move in full time.”
Family retreat
We found this home to be the perfect layout for our family vacation. We especially appreciated the fact that each bedroom had a bathroom and accommodations were made by the owner to provide additional sleeping for our group of 14. The kitchen and dining areas were spacious and, as a welcoming gift, provisions such as cheese, crackers, salami etc. in the refrigerator and pantry were provided for us by the owners. The kitchen was very well equipped to meet all our needs. We all felt a very comfortable feeling with the spacious rooms and the remote setting of the house. We also appreciated the two hot tubs, the piano, games and puzzles available for our use. We have taken family vacations every year for the past 9 years, and we all agreed that this one was our best!”
Great place
This house is very comfortable and well appointed. We were a mixed group- 2 elders (one on a walker), 3 young children, and 6 other adults. The home, decks and garden spaces were pleasant, quiet and spacious. We appreciated the well equipped kitchen that accommodated several cooks, outdoor grill and nearby fish market and farmers' markets with high quality foods. The property felt like a retreat, yet was a short drive to the many outstanding attractions of the area. The owners were very tuned-in to our needs, making our vacation a perfect fit for our family. We can't wait to return.”
Excellent home and location!
A group of ten of us stayed here recently as we traveled to the central coast for the Big Sur marathon. This home was the perfect setting for just about anything, large gathering, relaxation or seeing just about anything in Monterey, Carmel or along beautiful Highway 1. The owners are very attentive in making sure your stay is perfect. Would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a getaway on the central coast!”
Fabulous Family Retreat
My family gathered here for a late holiday celebration, and it was wonderful! 11 adults and 4 children all had ample space to spread out & be comfortable, the kitchen accommodated big family meals easily and the grounds were a stunning playground for both kids and adults. Close to Monterey and Carmel, we enjoyed low-stress outings with minimal travel time, so we could really enjoy being there. You would never know you're so close to so many things since the house itself feels like a secluded hideaway. Everything was in great shape and the basket of goodies left by the owners was a nice surprise. If we come back to the area, we would definitely love to stay here again and for a longer period of time, so we can really settle in and enjoy everything this home has to offer. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!”
Home in the Hills
This is a wonderfully located home in the hills, about equidistant from Carmel and Monterey, about 10 minutes either way. Although the 5 bedrooms are not equal, each has its own advantages and quirks, which kept everyone happy. The kitchen was well stocked; dining room easily accommodated 10; books were plentiful; heaters on the back deck gave us another living space so that everyone really could spread out. We loved hearing the owls at night and watching the deer in the mornings. If we can get our schedules to coincide once again we will be back.”
Great Family Reunion with space for 14
We planned our reunion a year in advance and could hardly wait to go to Jacks Peak Retreat. We called David when we came down to Carmel on another visit and he was nice enough to show us around the home for a preview of the layout and how it would work for ourselves, our 4 adult children, spouses and our 5 grandchildren, ages 3 months to 12 years. We asked many questions and David patiently answered them all. Our family ate all our breakfasts and dinners at home on the deck outside or the dining room and we enjoyed the very well equipped kitchen and BBQ when we cooked each day. The 4 teens slept in the living room on airbeds and each morning before we left the house we stacked them on top of each other, ready to put down again in the evenings. The adults all had their own rooms and baths and we really enjoyed the spacious master suite which looked out to the front yard and hot tub. The preteens played badminton daily and almost everyone used the hot tubs at some point of the visit. There was a package of ground coffee, some cheese and some crackers waiting for us in the kitchen and some pretty flowers on the dining room table. David told us in advance that he wouldn't be able to be at the house to meet us, but all the keys were on the dining room table as he said with a nice binder which gave us all the information we needed about the house, where the hospital and local restaurants were located. Jacks Peak is very close to Monterey and Carmel and it didn't take us long to get to the Monterey Aquarium, to Carmel for shopping, or to Tarpy's Roadhouse for lunch and our tour of Lula's Chocolate factory. We were all delighted to see the family of deer that other guests had seen on their stays, too. Jacks Peak Retreat was everything it said it would be and gave our family the opportunity to live under one roof with plenty of room for all.”
Great family getaway home
We appreciated the warm, homey atmosphere this place provided for our extended family getaway. Our daughter loved the flower garden out back and the open, quiet space was a nice area for the grandparents to walk around.
The kids got to see deer in the morning, which is a treat for them, and the kitchen was well organized which made it easy to cook when we wanted to.
The stone hot tub was relaxing and roomy, and there were plenty of games (eg. ping pong, croquet, board games) that made it convenient to just hang around.
All in all, a comfy, relaxing place to be. We were all quite happy with it!”
Great place to stay
Our family of 8 adults and 5 children had a wonderful time at this house. It was spacious, nicely furnished and well kept. The kitchen was well equipped. There was plenty of space for visiting around the dining room table, in the living room and on the deck. The older children and adults enjoyed playing badminton, croquet, and bocce ball on the lawn.
The landscaping is pretty and we enjoyed seeing quail come up to the driveway and hearing owls at night. There are lots of redwoods in the area and there is a walking trail. Also it is pleasant to walk or jog on the roads. Even though you feel that you are secluded, it is just a short drive to Monterey or to Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The owner was very helpful and willing to answer any questions.”
Spacious, comfortable accommodations for large family
What a fabulous retreat for a family get-together! There were 10 of us and the accommodations were great (we numbered each bedroom and drew to see who stayed where). The house is very cozy and comfortable—the outdoor living was especially nice. We spent lots of time on back deck eating, drinking and cooking. The kitchen had absolutely everything we needed and it was a great gathering place as well. The owners were very considerate and helpful. We took advantage of shopping nearby, Point Lobos, 17-mile Drive and the wharf in Monterey and downtown Carmel. We will treasure our memories at Jacks Peak Retreat.”
When can we come back?
This spring, my writing group chose Jacks Peak Retreat for just that…we had a four day retreat to dedicate some work time and enjoy the setting. The house is lovely and spacious. There is a charming eat-in kitchen, a good social gathering place. The kitchen was well stocked with every utensil we could need. We also used the formal dining room for our dinners and meetings. There are plenty of bathrooms and bedrooms (only one of which is downstairs) and we made it work for eight. The house & grounds were clean and well cared for. Our hosts were friendly and easy going. They called to say that there was no immediate check-in upon our departure so we had a little extra time there. That was nice of them. We hope to make this our annual spot.”
Excellent home for a family vacation!
Jacks Peak Retreat was the perfect location for our family vacation and we could not have been more impressed. My husband and I had the opportunity to host a weekend for both of our immediate families from the UK and the US (8 adults) and this location was exactly what we were looking for.The house was decorated beautifully and all of the rooms were very comfortable, the owners provided bed lines, towels and toiletries if anyone forgot anything which was a great touch. I stayed in room with the doors that open to the backyard/deck, waking up to that view each morning was amazing. There were ensuite bathrooms in every room so each family member had a lot of privacy which they appreciated. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. We loved sitting out on the deck in the evening to enjoy our great company and impressive surroundings. At the end of our longs days, the jacuzzi was perfect place to relax before bed.
Not only did we love the house but the area it was in was great for activities. We went to some wine tasting rooms in Carmel Valley one day. The valley was less than half an hour away. We also visited some of the tasting rooms in Carmel by the coast. It was much less touristy than Napa and Sonoma and the people were so welcoming. We went to some restaurants as well that are a must visit while staying. Andres Bouchee in Carmel and Passion Fish in Monterey were two of the best meals we had ever had!
All-in-all this house was perfect. Tucked away from the city in a more remote area but only ten minute drive to the middle of Carmel, the Monterey Aquarium, 17-mile Drive, China Cove and wine tasting. What more could you want for a long weekend away. We will definitely be coming back to visit!”
Quite simply, a really great place to get together with friends!
I just looked at the last several reviews. They are all 5 stars with good reason. Jacks Peak Retreat really is a wonderful place.
Our get together included 5 couples who have been friends for decades. Everyone raved about how perfect the house was. Other than a terrible Super Bowl that didn't include our team (the 49ers), everything else was awesome. Jacks Peak Retreat is great.”
A wonderful setting for our family reunion
This was a great experience. The house exceeded our expectations and covered all our needs. Our group included 7 adults and 7 children, ages 3 to 13. The owners provided very thoughtful instructions for all the amenities and everything was in good shape and perfect working conditions. The location is superb, in the middle of the woods but also a few minutes away from all necessary stores (Whole Foods!). Watching the birds in the drinking fountains on the back deck was certainly something to remember. We would go back for sure.”
WOW Moment!
I had loved the pictures of this house, they seemed to speak to me, my kids as well. "Get it mom, it is so like you", they said. As soon as I opened the front door I was not disappointed! I had a WOW moment right there in the family room! I loved the whole thing, the old books and pictures, old wall paper, old house, toys for adults and children, records and the record player, the fire place complete with wood and starter. Beautiful location, deer, owls, quail, squirrels, harks, you can even hear the seals at the beach. The mall is right around the corner. I would come back in a heart beat! Thank you so much!”
Great setting for our family reunion!
We looked at several different vacation rental properties to hold our family reunion of five siblings and spouses and are so glad we chose this home! It was perfect for our needs—we cooked in for all our meals, spent some quality time reminiscing over old photos and playing board games at the large dining table, relaxed on the spacious deck, and appreciated that each bedroom has its own bathroom. The property has so many wonderful areas to explore and was perfect for a daytime or evening game of "extreme" bocce. We were visited daily by a mommy deer and her baby and enjoyed the natural setting and peace the location has to offer with several private sitting areas to choose from as well. We could tell this home has been lived in by a very loving family (many great photos, and we loved the markings of various children's and maybe grandchildren's heights on the inside cupboard in the kitchen!)
The property is also conveniently located near golf, 17 mile drive, Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row, and we enjoyed all those during our stay.
I would highly recommend this home and may be returning at some point with some friends for a couple's getaway. David and Patti were excellent hosts!”
It's hard to leave this house
Thank you for making our family reunion such a success! From the fireplace prepared and ready for a crackling fire to the beautifully kept grounds and deck areas. Our group enjoyed every nook and cranny…the hot tubs, croquet on the lawn, walking paths, downstairs game room and more. The place was so well set up for a big family group that it was hard to leave…literally…some never ventured to the beach, wharf or town. It was THAT comfortable. Thanks for helping us make such positive and important memories as we came together to celebrate a milestone 80th birthday.”
Monterey at your own pace
I have stayed at a few homes in Monterey and this ranks up there as one of the favorites. The booking process was so smooth with the owner, and everything was spelled out very efficiently. The house is comfortable. We had four families with kids, and everyone got their own room. Each room has their own bathroom which is very nice. I thought the home felt homey and one of my friends said it felt very spiritual. While I was there it surely felt like home to me. Plenty of space, dining room, bbq deck area, 5-10 minute drives to Monterey, 17-mile Drive, Whole Foods, markets, stores, gas station while also secluded in the hills. I would recommend it if you have a group of families who like to gather around the family room and just enjoy each others' company.”
Very nice home with great location
The other excellent reviews are generally accurate. Overall this is an excellent property, and I highly recommend it. Two issues that might impact others: (1) Cleaning is not great. We dropped a book behind a dresser in the main bedroom, and found many dustballs when we moved the dresser. Overall cleanliness is good, not great. (2) Kitchen photos are old—cabinets and counter tops much more worn than shown in photos.
We used the property during the August Auto week. We ran a couple of cars at Laguna Seca, and the location was terrific for this. Able to use "back" gate & miss much of the traffic. Ladies liked it for convenience to Monterey.
Again, highly recommended.”Owner's Response: Dust balls behind large dresser: We pride ourselves on thorough cleanings between each guest. But we obviously missed those dust balls before their visit. We've reinforced our cleaning checklist and process to make sure we regularly get into nooks and crannies. Worn kitchen cabinets: The kitchen photo was taken in the spring of 2011 after the installation of new appliances. There is some wear and tear on the kitchen surfaces and in general around the house despite much painting and recent upgrades. This is a family home, well lived in, filled with memories and used to raise a family of five children. It's condition and character will provide a great backdrop for the many memories that will be made by our guests, their families and friends.
The Perfect Home
This place is wonderful! The pride of the owner shows the moment you drive onto the 5 acre property. The welcoming old tree in the front yard and all of the beautiful flowers draw you in immediately. Inside you will find it as pictured on the website only better, being very comfortable and "homey". Everything you need is here, including great beds and a very well stocked kitchen. We had an absolutely wonderful time here with family. We ate most of our meals at the house…always plenty of room with the spacious dining room area and the very cute kitchen nook. We all enjoyed watching the many deer that were in the yard most of the day. If you are looking for a large quiet comfortable beautiful place to stay, this will work for you. It certainly did for us and if we ever have the opportunity to stay here again, we sure will.”
Fantastic Family Birthday Celebration
I cannot begin to say enough about this wonderful home. Our family of seven was looking for the perfect location to get together. We all love the wonderful coast of California and so the search began. The minute I came upon Jacks Peak Retreat, I knew it was for us. Every bedroom had its own bath, it was close to everywhere we wanted to go and afforded us the privacy of our very own deck, patios, and hot tubs. What else could you ask for? David and Patti were so accommodating and once you set foot on the property, you realize this is truly a "home" with the warmth and beauty of a place that has been a real treasure to this family. How fortunate for us that they have decided to share it. We became very attached to the deer that come up into the yard every morning and evening…they had no fear of us which was really nice. We all decided that we would go back and would not even consider another place. Treat yourself and spend your time here…I promise you will never regret it!”
We came back for another full week with our kids and grandchildren
We repeated all the things we did the first time that were fun but STILL found more to do. Neat "extras" by the owners had been added showing they care about our experience—new TV's, wrapped toilet paper, visual effects, greeting on message board when we arrived, some "goodies" and treats to get us started, brand new excellent ping pong table and many more things— we were impressed!Owners totally available for little questions via phone and come by to show us stuff if we need help.
So fun seeing the bucks, does and fawn close up several times a day. Outdoor heaters like at restaurants. Bird baths (birds used to us so we could sit very close and watch them. Hiking on their property you feel "out in the woods". So nice you don't have to wash your towels and linens or "scrub up" the place when you're done. Just do normal pick up and vamoose.
Horseshoes was lots of fun. We had a "olympics day" well, not exactly…2 teams carry the egg on spoon, 1/2 cup of H20 to fill carafe, bean bag toss, shortened version (close up) of horseshoes, potato bag race, balloon toss, etc.
It is SILENT there. Love it. Beds and pillows all very comfortable. No one disliked them. Rooms large and everyone can "get away" to be alone easily. In their room or outside. Just about 2 miles down the hill is the Del Monte Shopping Center with Whole Foods, Century Theatres, plenty of restaurants and Starbucks. We did our bulk shopping at Costco and Trader Joe's in another location nearby.
Never wonder where to put away things. Little "pictures" of what goes where on each cupboard door inside it :)
Go.”
Best of the Best!
What a great house! We spent 3 nights at Jacks Peak Retreat and wished we could have stayed longer. We actually didn't want to spend time shopping and sight seeing because we didn't want to leave the house that made us feel so welcome. We East coast gals were fascinated by the fruit trees growing in the yard and the deer that wandered so near. Sitting on the deck we felt miles from the city yet we were minutes away from a Whole Foods and shopping area. The house was immaculate and fresh flowers, fruit, cheese and crackers greeted us upon arrival. The house had character and we loved looking at the family pictures. Each bedroom had its own bathroom with great showers. David was a gracious host and his home met our every expectation.”
Wonderful retreat - perfect!
After looking through a multitude of homes to select for our family vacation this one seemed like it would fit the 13 of us best. Pictures are always a bit misleading and one can be disappointed upon arrival. We were not! The pictures capture the place well. It was a perfect combination of comfortable, cozy, welcoming and secluded, yet close to anything you wanted to do! We had 6 little ones with 7 adults and it worked perfectly. The gardens are amazing and the home just like you would expect in Carmel. There is everything you might want to be comfortable and have fun. Although I do love staying in Carmel in order to just walk around, this home allowed for the children to play and the adults to just "be" in a secluded space. The beach was only 12 minutes away!
Most of all I appreciated how prompt, professional and yet personal and helpful David was to any question or need we had. Flowers and coffee greeted us upon arrival. If there was any concern he was a call away!
Overall, it made our time together as a family JUST perfect! I would recommend it to everyone!”
Group of nine adults and two children
Our expectations were met or exceeded, everything was as described and the daily help we received was welcome. The home was well stocked and important things like a wonderful supply of firewood was always easily available. The property and the surrounding roads (very little traffic) were a pleasure to walk on. Town was close and convenient organic and general stores were also. You are close to the bay and yet feel remote, a very nice mix.”
What a perfect setting for our group of 8 friends!
We had such a lovely stay at this home. There were 4 couples, so having 4 of the bedrooms on the main level worked out very well. Everything was exactly as described.
While our husbands played golf each morning, we took walks in the neighborhood around the Jacks Peak area…the weather was beautiful and the roads around the home were not heavily travelled.
We relaxed on the spacious deck in the evenings and cooked our dinners in the amazingly well-stocked kitchen. The living room was large enough for us all to gather comfortably to chat and listen to music or watch sports on television.
The owners were very gracious and easy to work with. Altogether a lovely experience…thank you David and Patti!”
Jacks Peak Retreat
What a great and comfortable place for a reunion. Our group of ten adults stayed a week in early October. The in-house wi-fi permitted us to all communicate on-line with our friends and families. There was adequate parking for 5 cars. The five bedrooms were nicely furnished each with private bathrooms. We cooked most of our meals at the house and used the BBQ on the back deck. The outdoor SPAs were great for relaxing at the end of the day. There were heaters on the deck to take the chill off sitting outside after dusk. The numerous trees on the 5-acre property around the house added to the feeling of privacy. Also plenty of birds (jays, woodpeckers, etc.) and squirrels frequently visited the bird baths on and around the deck. We even saw a deer.
This great location permitted us to go on side trips such as: Carmel, San Francisco (via train from the San Jose Train Station), Monterey Bay Aquarium, Hearst Castle via scenic Highway 1, A 1.5 hr. scenic train trip through a redwood forest in nearby Felton, CA plus numerous other attractions.
All of our group's five couples thoroughly enjoyed the house and its location.”
Charming Ranch-style retreat
My twin brother and I celebrated our 40th Birthday at Jacks Peak Retreat. Both our families, as well as our parents and brother's family, were comfortable in the spacious Ranch style house. Jacks Peak Retreat was a nice charming getaway, and close to downtown Carmel and Monterey. There's a Whole Foods close by, and a Trader Joe's just a little further down the road (both less than 5 miles away).
There's a nice hot tub that fits 4-5 comfortably (they have a smaller hot tub, but we never used it). The kitchen was charming and spacious. My brother and I had fun listening the the records they had at the house. You can tell that staying at a house that is used by the owners includes all these little charming details like a record player, a piano, as well as a basement full of croquet sets, games and sports balls.
Don't expect anything super fancy at Jacks Peak Retreat. I imagine it would appeal to outdoorsy Northern Californians rather than glitzy West Hollywood types. However, if you like the charm of a rustic 'cottage' (I say 'cottage', but the house is rather large. I only refer to the atmosphere of it), then this place will probably work for you.”
Gathering of Friends
We are a group of five couples that have been using vacation rentals twice a year for 28 years. This house was one of the best we have experienced. It was spacious, with lots of places to sit and talk or read, and the setting among beautiful old oaks was very peaceful. We enjoyed a BBQ on the deck and sitting out there under the propane heaters. Weekend football and baseball playoffs were fun on the High-Def TV, with a crackling fire going. Eating out was very accessible in Carmel, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, and Monterey. It was convenient to have a bathroom in each of the 5 bedrooms! The house is well maintained, equipped, and clean. The owners take great care to make this a pleasant place to stay.”
Just Right
We were a group of 3 couples and two singles on our 36th annual reunion, so this place was just the right size. The weather in early Sept. was excellent. The house is very well equipped. So much so that we ended up eating most of our dinner meals at the house.
The house is as advertised and very clean.
We had lunch at St. Tropez and a dinner at Rafferty's. Both excellent.
It was a great reunion.”
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO STAY
The house is in beautiful condition and we were able to accommodate our large family just fine. Every one was impressed with the beautiful location and the spacious surroundings. The house was clean and beautifully decorated and maintained.
Our family truly enjoyed the weekend and we are planning on making this rental property a family tradition for years to come. We recommend this home highly to anyone who would like to enjoy a special gathering with their family in Carmel, CA.”
3+ family vacation
We had a great time at this place. This property is conveniently located and the house provided many options…eat-in, eat-out, play out door games or just relax. The house is very roomy to accommodate our 3+ families. We relaxed and BBQ'd on the deck, played ping pong, played Mahjong, walked and explored the near by areas and also went up to the Jacks Peak Park. We also ate out several times in Carmel, about 10-15 minutes drive. It was a great week for all of us.
The only one suggestion is the house should have some large size pots and pans.”Owner's Response: Jacks Peak Retreat is also our family home and is often used by us for holidays and large family occasions. These gatherings always involve plenty of kitchen time, family cooking and eating in. We consider our kitchen to be well equipped for large meal preparation. There is an eight quart multi-pot with steamer plus two large pots of 8 and 10 quart capacity along with a wok and numerous other pots, fry pans and mixing bowls of all sizes. At the suggestion of our recent guests we have added a five quart chefs skillet.
Such a beautiful place!
We had a family meeting here and enjoyed every corner of this amazing house. It's a perfect place for big groups, with 5 incredible bedrooms and everything you need to spend a relaxing moment with lovely surroundings.”
Monterey Weekend
We were four families convening for some scuba fun in Monterey Bay. This was the perfect property to accommodate the size of our group and provide plenty of fun for those who weren't diving. The photos are a fair representation and the owner was very helpful before and after our visit. There was plenty of space for small groups to have different conversations, for kids to play separately from adults, or for someone to have a little quiet time to themselves. We relaxed on the deck, played lawn games, and walked and explored the property. It's located within a couple of minutes of town (by car), and yet you feel serenely far away from the real world. What a great weekend, we loved everything about it!”
Family reunion
We had a great family reunion at this home. We had a large group and the house was well suited for our needs. The grounds were beautiful and well tended.”
A Wonderful Welcoming Home!
I'm adding my praise to that of daughter Sarah who was part of our gathering of 7 adults and 3 kids. This house just welcomed us in to a week of easy family fun with lots of room for everyone. From coffee on the deck (didn't want to leave that beautiful spot) to the basketball hoop which got a heavy workout to the kitchen which was wonderfully equipped and made feeding the tribe fun, everything was there to make for an easy stay. We were surprised by how close we were to grocery options, hiking trails and ocean fronts in a spot which felt secluded from everything. It was so easy to feel at home here with a beautiful setting that blessed each day. Thank you to our hosts for extra measures of help and for sharing your beautiful home. We absolutely loved it!”
The perfect holiday home for a family
We searched high and low for the right home & location for a special family gathering. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found this beautiful home for our time together. With 7 adults and 3 children (infant, 8 & 10), there was more than enough space for us to all have our privacy along with a variety of gathering spaces to have fun together—living room, back porch, amazing hot tubs, dining room, the wonderfully cozy kitchen eating nook. What stood out the most, perhaps, was the feeling of being in a home that has been loved and cared for by the same family for decades. As a family coming together from around the US & Canada, it was a true gift to feel this sense of family surrounding us. Thank you for everything! I hope we are able to return one day.”
Vacation of a lifetime!
We've taken 6 one-week trips together as a family of 12 (kids/grandkids). This was by far the best! Why? Peaceful. Secluded. Near EVERYTHING (as in 10-20 min). Roomy. Rooms all awesome. Teen boys and teen girls loved their rooms. Master bedroom is more like a home in itself. Large TV, enormous bath, view of the trees, deer (all the time!, about 6 of them, little ones suckling mommy!), step out to jacuzzi (while 6 people can be in the "other" jacuzzi!), 2 very comfortable chairs. We all had a shower in our rooms. Between the kitchen and dining room, easy to all sit and eat or play games. Living room enormous. Loved the old library, records, historical stuff. Furniture so comfortable, clean, and so durable you don't have to worry about getting anything dirty. So much play room on the floor in the living room. We loved eating on the deck, using the BBQ and had the 2 heaters on one evening. Took about a 15 minute walk in the enormous woods which are on property. Watching woodpecker families play together, feeding bluejays, getting scolded by squirrels, just awesome! Kids 2-19. In one accord: Best vacation ever Papa and Nana! Oh, the owners were totally available nearby, with a quick phone call, but never did we feel like they were around. Plenty of everything you need in the kitchen, including the dishwasher. And, did we love playing ping pong, bocci ball, they have the best frisbee we've ever used, and hitting plastic golf balls in the big yard. Even had clubs there! Eating cherries from the trees, hey, we could go on. Go.”
Perfect for the family get together!
All the comforts of home with so much more! We felt so far away from it all, in a beautiful woodsy setting. The house was a lovely rambling ranch style home with not 1 but 2 hot tubs-plenty of room for 6 of us. Everyone commented on the comfortable beds and every bedroom had its own bathroom. We made meals at home and the kitchen had everything we needed. It was such a treat to lounge out on the deck and have our Sunday brunch at the large table. I highly recommend this beautiful get-away for families!”
Secluded & Convenient
My mom rented the house for a family vacation with her adult children. Great choice, Mom!
The deck was superb, with a view of birds and towering trees and wandering deer. The home-made lemonade from the garden's trees hit the spot. It was a wonderful place to relax and stay put—however, if so inclined, everything was close by and easy to get to.
Thanks for a wonderful time, David and Patti.
Thanks also for showing us that vintage Citroen—what a car!”
Comfortable and Quiet
This vacation home was very comfortable for our family of ten adults. There was plenty of storage space in the bedrooms for each of us to move in and get settled. The simple kitchen had the tools we needed. The dining room was large enough for all to gather around the table. There were adequate private and public spaces to enjoy the quiet alone or be together. Various outdoor and indoor seating areas offered views of the live oaks and gardens surrounding the property. We looked forward to watching the deer pass through each morning and afternoon. Our hosts responded to our requests without intruding on our privacy. With easy access to Pacific Grove, Carmel, Monterey and other cities, delicious local markets, hiking and biking trails, and nearby vineyards, this beautiful, secluded location is a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area.”
Perfect place: spacious, comfortable, private
Our group had a relaxing time at this spacious ranch style home. Plenty of private spaces/decks and large living room and dining room. Everything worked—comfortable beds. Located in an oak forest with deer wandering through, but less than 5 minutes from route one and very convenient for shopping and eating in Pacific Grove, Carmel, and Monterey. One of the best houses we have rented for a vacation—I would return.”
Clean, Clean, Clean!
You can leave your home with nothing but the clothes on your back and rest assured that you will find all that you need at this house. We had a large reunion with 5 families and the house offered plenty of room and space to spread out. David was very attentive to our needs and was quick to respond. Our daughter is very sensitive to "hot tub itch" and this was not a concern with their tubs. They were impeccably clean and David even visited to test and treat the water. We highly recommend!”
Family fun and easy access in this lovely home
This is a lovely, comfortable, family home! Our large extended family stayed there for a weekend and no one felt cramped or crowded. The kitchen is a little older but perfectly adequate for preparing big family meals. Our children had a blast exploring the area and the owners, David and Patti, were extremely helpful, available, and respectful of our privacy. You cannot go wrong if you want a quiet and slightly rustic getaway for you family. Although 5 minutes from Monterey and Carmel, it feels like you are in another world at this quiet, wooded retreat.”
So close, and yet so secluded
My extended family has rented this house twice over the last couple of years for big get-togethers. Both stays have been superb.
It's not actually in Carmel proper, but rather on a hill just up the road from downtown Carmel—too far to walk into downtown Carmel, but a quick, five-minute drive. Because it's so close to Monterey, Carmel and the highway, it's easy to get just about anywhere in the area from here—yet you feel like you're miles away from all the crowds, the parking problems and the noise.
The property is quite large, at the end of a long dirt driveway, and surrounded by dense oak trees. You can't see or hear any of the surrounding homes (nice), but you also don't have views of the ocean or the city below (too bad). It's also not one of those staid Carmel mansions. This home has more of a casual, relaxed vibe; more like a real home than a vacation rental; the kind of place where you can run around playing ping-pong, badminton or croquet in the front yard (we did), lounge around in the living room (we did), crowd around the dining room table (we did), and get away for some alone time in either of the hot tubs (I did).
The owners were very nice and live just up the road. They helped us make our first fire in the fireplace, offered tips on the best beaches and attractions, even stopped by right away to fix a light that burned out in the living room. Way more personal than a property management company, yet only around when you need them.
Downtown Carmel and Monterey have become too crowded and congested for my taste. Here, we can enjoy everything town has to offer, while enjoying some space and solitude the rest of the time.”
Wonderful environment for a large family reunion!
The home is as described, only better! The rooms are all spacious and well-appointed. Our family gathered there to celebrate the matriarchal 80th birthday over four days; in addition to the family gathering we cooked in the spacious kitchen and held a large party. The location is just perfect for walks in the woods, a quick drive to either Monterey or Carmel. Patti and David were wonderful, helpful hosts. Highly recommended.”
